Dreamtime Sumbawa is a mystical surf camp located in the rainforest of West Sumbawa, Indonesia; on a private beach and a short boat ride form the main port. We provide a unique opportunity to experience the authentic Indonesian way of life, through daily surfing, luxurious glamping, remote beach and hiking excursions, snorkeling and fishing right on your private beach. Dreamtime Sumbawa serves as a foundation to connect you with the ocean and Indonesia’s vast and extraordinary offerings of nature and wildlife.

The concept of Dreamtime Sumbawa is to create a fun, energetic atmosphere, full of adventures and unforgettable memories, while simultaneously being in harmony with the environment and culture of Indonesia.

At Dreamtime Sumbawa, we collect moments not things. Once you arrive in camp, you have to check out of regular life and check into the off-grid environment.

Can we change money in West Sumbawa?

YES!  You can change money in the town of MALUK through the bank. The exchange rate may not be as high as some money exchanges in BALI, however it is still pretty good.
Currently there are a few ATM’s in Maluk and surrounding towns so getting money isn’t a problem.
ALL bills must be paid before leaving & prices when using local services should be agreed upon before using them.
We suggest bringing cash and a VISA or MASTERCARD just in case.

Are the waves beginners can surf?

We have everything from reef breaks to beachies in the area, there are a few small wave spots that they can hook into. Directly in front of us when the swell is small is also very accommodating towards more nervous surfers.

How do you exactly get to DreamTime Sumbawa?

Dreamtime Sumbawa is BOAT ACCESS ONLY , if you are coming on a motorbike or car then you simply park your vehicle at Benete at our secure parking and jump on our boat straight into Dreamtime.. Easy as that. To get our boat in, it is best to email the day before you want to come and check it all out.

Do we just have to surf the wave out the front?

There are 2 waves out the front but you’re not restricted to surf these waves. There are other waves around and are always worth a look!

Do you have WiFi?

We do not have WiFi, however Internet and phone reception is quite good here, we can assist you with the correct local sim card so you can connect to the outside world!

How can we get around?

When at Dream Time Sumbawa we can assist you with cars/motorbike/boats hire once you are here. Boats are the best way to get around in West Sumbawa, especially if you just want to go surfing.

How many people can stay at the camp?

2 Guests only. We have a strict number of people that can stay at the camp so we can give you the best service possible while you stay with us. It also means empty line-ups in the surf and your meal will come out super quick.

How many people in the Lotus Belle tent?

As it’s a 20m2 tent you will have plenty of room to relax out of the tropical climate while still taking in all what West Sumbawa can offer. The tent includes a queen size bed on a reclaimed timber base and cotton sheets straight from Australia. You will have ample storage and a nice chill out area.. perfect!

A decent 1st aid kit, mozzie repellent, iPod, books, swimming gear, long sleeve shirt & long pants, sun protection, phone chargers, power adaptor (local power is through round 2 pin style sockets).

An adventurous & relaxed attitude so you get the most out of your stay with us.

What about Visa’s?

With minimum 6 months validity on your passport, most nationalities are issued with a US$35, 30-day visa on arrival. Alternatively a 60-day tourist visa can be applied for before arriving in Indonesia. Please check with your closest Indonesian embassy/consulate. Ensure your flight out of Indonesia leaves before your visa ends; your arrival date is classed as your first day regardless of the time of day or night you arrive.

What about Alcohol?

Alcohol is not a part of everyday life in West Sumbawa. At Dream Time Sumbawa Surf Camp you are free to drink. Outside in the villages, to respect local ways, Dream Time Sumbawa Surf Camp discourages alcohol consumption. We love to party but like to keep the vibe relaxed. There are a number of other restaurants on the beach at nearby Yoyo’s.

What about Malaria?

While we wouldn’t say there is no malaria it isn’t something to worry about if you take the right precautions. Cover up at dusk n dawn, wear repellent and use the mosquito nets provided with each bed. We advise you to consult with your doctor as to what medications you will need for your holiday in Indonesia.

Any medical facilities?

Local doctors are available and major hospitals are close as there is the second largest gold mine in the world just near by. A well equipped first aid kit is essential out here and we cant stress enough ‘TRAVEL INSURANCE INCLUDING MEDIVAC IS ESSENTIAL FOR TRAVELING IN INDONESIA’ we can help you out but wont assume any responsibility should you get into trouble.

What about the crowds?

As you are the only guests here, you are almost certain to get uncrowded waves that are easy to learn on.

How secluded are you?

YES we are extremely secluded; the beauty in isolation is quiet times in and out of the water. Zero noise from cars and motorbikes or that rooster that always seems to crow at 3am in the morning. At Dream Time Sumbawa Surf Camp, we aim to provide a relaxing holiday away from the crowds!

What about Mobiles & Internet?

Mobile phones with global roaming will work out here. You can buy local sim card packages to call or text cheaply. We have found Internet equipped mobiles, iPhones, blackberry’s, iPad’s etc. work well on the beach!

Where are we?

Dream Time Sumbawa is a Surf Camp located in West Sumbawa, Indonesia. West Sumbawa is home to world-renowned waves such as SUPERSUCKS and SCAR REEF.  The camp boasts beachfront living over looking a secluded beach and Mt Rinjani on Lombok.

We are 1.5 Hour Drive from the local ferry port (Poto Tano) in West Sumbawa or a 2-3 Hour drive from the closes airport in Sumbawa Besar.

When to come?

The main surf season runs from March till November, the “dry” season. This fits in with the trade winds which blow offshore this time of year.

The “wet” season, November/December till February/March, still provide periods of offshore conditions & no crowds. Yeah, sometimes it rains and gets windy but those days are very few here in West Sumbawa. Your reward for putting up with a few rainy days here and there is to surf with absolutely no one in paradise!
